On Tuesday 15th May, a group of thirty to forty local protesters gathered to oppose the proposed development of the "York Building", a 12-storey development that will deface and overshadow the already over-developed facade of beautiful Newcastle Beach. The protest coincided with the inspection of councillors and developers onsight. Whilst assembled, the Lord Mayor, decided to drive by to 'check us out'.  
       
   
  Protesters gathered at the kiwi ice cream cone shop in Zaara Street Newcastle East. The icecream shop kindly turned on half price icecream cones for the occasion.  
       
  The protesters proceeded along the beachfront to the site of the building chanting where despite wind and cold they flew their banners.
